First things first….what exactly is creativity? It seems there appears to be little agreement among the experts about a singular definition. Here is where you come in.
This a photography project which is part of my PhD study used to define ‘creativity’ as seen through individual life experience. Please tweet, facebook, post on Flickr or email a single photograph with a single-word definition as the title for the photograph that answers “what is creativity?” The photography will be used to analyze common themes among all of the photographs for the purpose of defining creativity. The collection may be published in whole or part for the purpose of research, education and art exhibition/book as it relates to creativity.
By posting a photograph/word for this project, you are consenting to the use of it for qualitative research or art collection. Personally identifying information (such as user name attached to uploaded picture) may be removed during data collection and in publications to comply with the research Internal Review Board (IRB) standards.
Ok… I may be a little biased. Kris is my nephew. That doesn’t change the fact that he was named one of the 12 Newsworthy Artists by the Dallas Observer. He has been a part of some ground-breaking exhibitions, such as Where is the Power, which involve human interaction with the environment, technology, and modern culture. He is a founding member of Homecoming, that is a project by a collection of experimental artists who wish to take the art out of the gallery and into the community. For his day job, Kris is a graphic designer for Funimation Entertainment. You can see some of his work at Robox. He is a designer, illustrator, art director, and animation producer and freelancer. Not to mention, he has worked with THE Samuel L. Jackson on Afro Samurai. Keep an eye out for his work!
This is one of my favorite t-shirts from my super cool t-shirt supplier @PunkMasters. To me it implies that we need to focus on what’s important and delete all of the extraneous stuff. With the New Year I decided I could use a little more discipline in many areas of my life. I am always searching for new and exciting stuff. I also have what most Americans have, which is commitment issues. You know what I am talking about…. We say yes to far too much and as a result we lose focus on what really matters. I recently read an article by Greg McKeown. In it, he said we should engage in the disciplined pursuit of less.
Cathy Davidson stated in her book, Now You See It: How Brain Science of Attention Will Transform the Way We Live, Work, and Learn that:
Without focus, the world is chaos; there’s simply too much to see, hear, and understand, and focus lets us drill down to the input we believe is most useful to us.
So, this year I plan to spend a little time with self-examination and will hone the art of focus.
